Fall is the best time to sign up for after-school activities, math included! Here's why:
Knowing How to Think Is Important
Just because a child participates in an extracurricular activity, that doesn’t mean it has to affect their future career. Most children participate in a sport growing up, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will become professional athletes. The ability to think critically, logically, and creatively varies from person to person. It’s an ability that is highly rewarded regardless of the profession someone chooses. Additional math education can help because math happens to be the best tool humans currently have with which to develop the mind and ability to think.

A Child’s Potential Isn’t Determined at Birth
So often we hear, “My child just isn't a math person.” Struggling is not akin to a lack of ability, and many students struggle because the subject wasn't properly introduced. Young children are capable of abstract reasoning and higher-order thinking, much more so than their older peers, so starting early matters. When an elementary school student is introduced to mathematics properly, research has shown that their cognitive development is pushed forward.
Math Is Fun
Math is often taught as a series of unconnected facts to be memorized through grit. We see mathematics differently. Math is a language, a lens through which to understand the world. Being in this kind of environment is contagious, children catch on to a love of learning that stays with them throughout their lives.
